This Weekend in Peacock Basketball...  Upper Iowa is on the road again this week with a pair of NSIC match ups.  The Peacocks will take on the Golden Bears of Concordia University, St. Paul, who enter the weekend with a 2-3 record overall and 0-1 mark in NSIC play, on Friday at 6 p.m.  UIU will then head west to Minnesota State University, Mankato for a 6 p.m. tip on Saturday; the Mavericks are 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Kieffer’s Defenders at “Whit”s End...  Whitney Kieffer is second in the NSIC in scoring at 18.7 points per game; the Scales Mound, Ill. product is also sixth in the NSIC in steals with 2.9 per game and 16th in the conference in rebounding at 6.9 per contest.  She was named the NSIC’s first Player of the Week this season after opening her sophomore campaign with her third career double-double.  Kieffer scored 31 points and pulled down 10 boards against William Jewell; she also added 6 steals and 3 assists.

Come “Herrick” or High Water... Jennifer Herrick is third on the UIU roster in scoring with 10.4 points per game and she is not wasting her shot attempts.  Herrick has hit 51.6% (16-31) of her field goal attempts including 54.5% (12-22) from beyond the arc.  The Fond du Lac, Wis. native has also converted eight of her ten free throw attempts after missing the first two games due to injury.

‘Tis the Season for “Carroll”-ing... Lindsay Carroll is averaging 10.7 points per game for UIU and the double-digit average is due in part to her great start at the free throw line.  The Western Illinois transfer has made all but two of her 26 of her attempts at the charity stripe while shooting 47.8% (11-23) from the three-point line.  Despite measuring up at 5-6, Carroll is averaging 2.7 rebounds per game including a 6-board collection against Alaska Fairbanks.

Last Week’s Game between the Mavericks and Golden Bears... Minnesota State opened its NSIC schedule with an 85-66 win over Concordia.  The Mavericks and Golden Bears exchanged points early as there were seven lead changes in the first 10 minutes of the contest before Minnesota State was able to end the final nine minutes of the first half on a 27-11 run, taking a 47-31 lead into intermission.  Minnesota State continued its hot-shooting as they converted on 57% (20-35) from the field and 36% (4-11) from behind the three-point arc. The Mavericks were paced by junior forward Ali Wilkinson with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Anika Whiting paced the Bears with 19 points, four rebounds and a block.
