This Week in Peacock Basketball... Upper Iowa will play their final game of 2012 on Wednesday evening in Romeoville, Ill.  The Peacocks (3-8, 0-5 NSIC) will face the Flyers of Lewis University (6-1) in the team's last non-conference match up of the season.  UIU enters the game looking to break a seven-game skid, while Lewis has won their last three games.

Last Season in Fayette... The Peacocks took on the Flyers in last season’s home opener.  It took two overtimes to decide a winner.  Lewis was able to make some clutch free throws in the end and survive by a count of 90-86 after UIU twice extended the game in the final seconds.  The Flyers led by as much as 13 with just over six and a half minutes remaining in regulation, but UIU rallied.  Lewis kept their lead until Laura TerHark hit a game-tying three at the top of the key to send the game into the first overtime knotted up at 68.  The visitors were able to take a lead in the first overtime, but once again the home team would tie the game in the final seconds.  Jennifer Herrick drove down the left side of the lane, spun to her right and drained an eight-foot jumper to send the contest into a second overtime with the score tied, 76-76.  Scoring was back and forth before the fourteenth and final tie, 86-86, with just under a minute to go in the second overtime.  Lewis would go on to sink four huge free throws and take the four-point victory, 90-86.  Whitney Kieffer scored 22 points and pulled down 8 rebounds, while Herrick added 19 points and six rebounds and TerHark chipped in 12 points as well.

Lucky Number 13... Whitney Kieffer (#13) is 3rd in the NSIC and 32nd in the nation in scoring at 18.5 points per game; the Scales Mound, Ill. product is also second in the NSIC and 34th in the country in steals with 3.2 per game and 13th in the conference in rebounding at 7 per contest.  She was named the NSIC’s first Player of the Week this season after opening her sophomore campaign with her third career double-double. Kieffer tied a career-high with 31 points and pulled down 10 boards against William Jewell; she also added 6 steals and 3 assists.

Carroll Locked In on the Lines... Lindsay Carroll is averaging 9.5 points per game for UIU and is tied for second on the team in scoring thanks to her great shooting at the free throw and three-point lines. The Western Illinois transfer has made all but three of her 32 of her attempts at the charity stripe while shooting 50% (17-34) from the three-point line. Her 90.6% conversion rate at the free throw line and three-point accuracy are both 2nd best in the conference.  The percentage at the charity stripe is the 24th best in the country.  Despite measuring up at 5-6, Carroll is averaging 4.0 rebounds per game including a 5.8 average in three NSIC games.

Herrick’s On Target... Senior Jennifer Herrick is fourth on the UIU roster in scoring with 7.9 points per game and she has been on target from beyond the arc.  Herrick has hit 39.4% (13-33) of her three-point attempts, which is ranked 15th in the NSIC, and has also converted 16 of her 18 attempts at the charity stripe this year.

Pagel Heating Up… Freshman Carly Pagel has improved her averages since UIU moved into the NSIC season.  Pagel is averaging 9.5 points per game this year, but is netting 12.8 points per NSIC contest while shooting nearly 47.4% (27-57) in those games.  She is 19th in the NSIC in rebounding with 6.3 boards per game.
