Thanksgiving in Alaska... The Peacocks are in Fairbanks, Alaska for three games in the Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational. Upper Iowa will take the court Thanksgiving night against the host Nanooks before taking on Winona State on Friday and Anderson on Saturday. UIU is 2-1 through their first three games with wins against William Jewell and Grand View.
Heading into the Weekend... Alaska-Fairbanks is 0-3 after a home loss to Colorado School of Mines and a pair of losses in California to the Academy of Art and Cal State East Bay. Winona State comes into the weekend at 2-1; the Warriors bounced back from a 74-68 loss to Saint Mary’s with two big wins over Wisconsin-Stout and Grand View. Anderson is 2-2 after a full early season schedule that included exhibition games at Wake Forest, Clemson and South Carolina; the Trojans defeated Clemson 72-65 in their second exhibition game.
No Sophomore Slump... Whitney Kieffer was named as the NSIC’s first Player of the Week after a 31-point, 10-rebound effort in week one and the sophomore hasn’t slowed down yet. Kieffer is averaging 26.7 points, 9.3 boards and 1.7 assists per game. The Scales Mound, Ill. product is shooting 54.8% from the floor (23-42) and 81.1% (30-37) from the free throw line.
Sweet Sound of Perfection... Newcomer
Lindsay Carroll is averaging 10.7 points per game thanks in large part to her 100% shooting at the charity stripe. The sophomore is 16 for 16 on the season at the free throw line and has also hit 4 of her 9 three-point attempts.
Come Herrick or High Water… Senior
Jennifer Herrick returned for her first action of the season against Grand View last Friday night and scored 9 points including a pair of trifectas. Herrick missed the first two games and all three exhibition games due to injury.
