Today, the Peacock Women's Basketball team snapped a 29-game losing streak that spanned all the way back to last December 18th when the Peacocks defeated the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State at home. The 62-44 win gave UIU their first win of the year and dropped Concordia’s record to 6-9 overall and 3-6 in the NSIC.
Upper Iowa controlled the first eight minutes of the game jumping out to a 15-4 lead on their guests. The hot start was fueled by five points from both Jeri Jacobson and Lyndsay Westgaard.The Golden Bears could never get closer than five points and UIU went into the locker room with a ten-point advantage, 26-16. Concordia didn’t help themselves either shooting only 25% from the field and the Peacocks controlled the glass with a 27-15 rebounding advantage.
Coming out of the locker room, Upper Iowa slowly began to pull away from the visitors. CU cut the deficit to eight, 26-18, to start the second half but that would be the closest the Golden Bears got. From then on, the Peacocks took over the game. UIU would lead by as many as 20, 62-42 with just 34 seconds to play and cruised to a decisive 62-44 victory. Concordia shot better in the second half but free throws proved to be the difference maker.
The home team made 15 more free throws than their opponents including 12 more just in the second frame. For the game, Upper Iowa had a 48-31 advantage on the boards including 16-7 on the offensive glass.
