Whitney Kieffer drove down the left side of the lane for a left-handed layup that gave Upper Iowa a come from behind Northern Sun win over the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State in Dorman Gym.

With six seconds to play in regulation and trailing by one, Jeri Jacobson was taking the ball out of bounds on the far sideline. She inbounded the ball to Jennifer Herrick at the top of the key who swung it to the near wing for Kieffer. She did the rest by driving to her left and converting on a left-handed layup to give the Peacocks (2-16, 2-12) a 63-62 advantage. SMSU (5-13, 4-10) was unable to win the game on a last second heave.

The winning shot capped a 20-5 run for UIU that spanned the final nine minutes of the game. Kieffer was responsible for 11 of those 20 while Jacobson chipped in 7. The Mustangs didn't help themselves turning the ball over eight times during the Peacock run.

SMSU took a four-point lead into the locker room at halftime, 38-34, and increased that lead in the second half. With just under thirteen and a half minutes to go in the game, Upper Iowa trailed the visitors by six, 47-41. The Mustangs then went on a 10-2 run over the next four and a half minutes to increase their lead to 14, 57-43, prior to the Peacock rally.

Southwest Minnesota State doubled UIU in the rebound department, 54-27, including 23-9 on the offensive glass. Southwest was unable to convert on those second chance opportunities and trailed the Peacocks in second chance points, 13-12. The most important difference came in points off turnovers where Upper Iowa outscored SMSU 23-7.
