Upper Iowa welcomed the Wildcats of Wayne State College, the number ten team in the land to Dorman Gymnasium tonight. The Wildcats shot over 44% (13-29) from behind the ark to outlast the Peacocks winning by a final count of 76-62. With the win, WSC improves to 17-2 overall and 11-2 in the NSIC. UIU falls to 1-16 on the season including 1-12 in Northern Sun play.
Wayne State would lead early 7-2 just over three and a half minutes into the game. Upper Iowa would respond and stormed back with a 17-5 run to take a seven point lead, 19-12 halfway through the first half. Jeri Jacobson provided eight of her 14 first half points during the run. Wayne State would battle back and tie the game at 25-25 with just over five and a half minutes to play in the frame. The Peacocks would then take their final lead of the first half, 27-25, before the Wildcats took the lead back and went up by as many as six, 35-29. WSC would take a five-point lead, 38-33, into the locker room.
Wayne State would open the second half with a 11-2 run and go up by 14, 35-49. The lead would never get any smaller than 11 as the Wildcats would lead by as many as 21, twice in the second half. WSC would go on to win the contest by a score of 62-76.
Both teams shot well from the field with the visitors shooting over 51% (29-56) while UIU shot over 42% (23-54). Rebounds were nearly equal with a two-rebound advantage by the Peacocks (32-30). Three pointers were the difference as the Wildcats made 13 to only 4 from Upper Iowa.
