Northern State 77 - Upper Iowa 49

Box Score

The Peacock women's basketball team opened the second half of their season tonight in Aberdeen, S.D. against the Wolves of Northern State University.  The Wolves posted a 77-49 victory at home to give their head coach, Curt Fredrickson, his 700th career win; the milestone win marks just the second time in NCAA Division II and 16th time across all divisions.  With the loss, UIU drops to 0-10 overall and 0-6 in the NSIC.

The home team raced out to a 7-0 lead, but the Peacocks rallied with a 12-0 run of their own to claim their largest lead of the night.  The two teams went back and forth over the next nine minutes locking up at 19-19 with 6:31 to play in the first half.

Northern State stepped up their defense and forced Upper Iowa into five turnovers over the remaining minutes of the half to take a 32-21 lead into the halftime break.

UIU opened the second half well and closed the gap to six points, 37-31, just four minutes into the second stanza after outscoring their hosts 10-5.

The Wolves offense erupted over the next five minutes pushing their lead out to 24 points, 57-33, thanks to a 20-2 run.  Northern State hit 8 of 10 from the floor including a trio of triples from behind the arc.

Upper Iowa never recovered as Northern State cruised to the 77-49 victory.

The Peacocks shot nearly 42% from the floor, but 21 turnovers limited the UIU opportunities on the offensive end.
