The Golden Eagles of the University of Minnesota, Crookston held the Peacocks to just three points after Upper Iowa tied the game at 60-60 with five minutes to play. The 75-63 loss dropped UIU's record to 1-14 overall and 1-10 in the NSIC.
The final run for UMC was fueled by eleven points at the charity stripe. Jennifer Herrick scored the Peacocks' only points in the final minutes at the free throw line as UIU missed all eight of their final field goal attempts and turned the ball over three times.
Leading up to the final five minutes, the Peacocks had put together a good effort staying right with the home team point for point. After trailing by five points early in the game, Upper Iowa lead by as many as seven points, 22-15, with just under seven minutes to play in the first half. The home team rallied to claim a one-point advantage, 34-33, heading into the locker room thanks to a 14-6 run over the final four and a half minutes.
The Golden Eagles pushed their lead to six points on two occasions, but each time the Peacocks rallied back to tie the score. With the game tied at 60-60 and 5:07 showing on the clock, the Golden Eagles outscored their guests 15-3 for the remainder of the contest to post the twelve-point win.
UMC took advantage of two key areas for the win including points in the paint (15-4) and second chance points (15-8). The Golden Eagles also held the Peacocks to just 26.7% shooting from the field. Upper Iowa did convert on 9 of their 18 three-pointers, but struggled inside the arc making only 7 of their 42 two-point shots.

Upper Iowa will return home next Friday and Saturday with home games against Augustana College and Wayne State College. Both games are scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. in Dorman Gym in Fayette. |
