The Upper Iowa women’s basketball team finished up the road portion of their 2010-11 season Saturday evening by visiting Moorhead, Minn. for a showdown with the Dragons of MSU Moorhead. The Peacocks fell behind at halftime, 33-21, and could never recover as they lost the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game, 66-40.
Cold shooting plagued UIU as they shot just 28.8% for the game (15-of-52) and just 21.1% (4-of-19) from beyond the three-point arc.
Upper Iowa was outrebounded 31-16 as MSU Moorhead shot a blazing 51.9% from the floor throughout the game. The Peacocks did have less turnovers than their opponents though, 15-9.
Chelsea Garcia led Upper Iowa 10 points and added a pair of assists. Heidi McKean added 7 points and 3 rebounds, while Jeri Jacobson and Lyndsay Westgaard each netted 6. Lana Otting handed out 3 assists and pulled down 4 rebounds.
The Peacocks return home next weekend for their final two games of the season. Upper Iowa will host Bemidji State on Friday night and then honor their seniors, Cassandra Deiters and Chelsea Arndt, after they play the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday. Both games are scheduled for a 6 p.m. tip.
