Tonight in their final Northern Sun matchup of 2011, the Peacocks took on the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minnesota. Upper Iowa was never able to take the lead and fell to the Mustangs by a final score of 75-59. With the victory, the Mustangs’ record improves to 4-7 and 3-4 in the NSIC. Upper Iowa falls to 0-9 including 0-5 in Northern Sun play.

SMSU stormed out to a nine-point advantage, 18-9, just over eight minutes into the game, but UIU would rally back and cut the deficit to two, 20-18, with seven and a half minutes to play in the first half. The 9-2 run was fueled by four points from Jennifer Herrick as well as a three-pointer from Laura TerHark. However, Southwest would increase their lead back to nine, 35-26, heading into the locker room.

The smallest the Mustangs’ lead would get in the second half would be seven points, 37-30, barely a minute into the frame. From then on, the home team would never allow the Peacocks to get into the game and led by as many as 23, 75-52, with just four and a half minutes to play. Southwest turned 27 Upper Iowa turnovers into 23 points and would go onto win the contest by a final count of 75-59.
