Upper Iowa lost tonight's second half at Minnesota State by one point, but the Peacocks entered the second half trailing by 15 after the Mavericks outshot their guests in the first stanza. Minnesota State defeated Upper Iowa 83-67 to drop UIU's record to 0-8 overall and 0-4 in the NSIC.
The Mavericks jumped on the Peacocks early taking a double-digit lead midway through the first half. The home team grew their lead to 19 points with just under six minutes to play in the first half. MSU went to the locker room with a 15--point cushion, 42-27, thanks to 50% shooting from the field.
Minnesota State extended their advantage to as many as 24 points in the second half, but Upper Iowa made a dent in the margin late to pull with 16 at the final buzzer, 83-67.
Possessions and ball control proved to be the major issue for Upper Iowa on the night. The Peacocks shot 40% from the field but had 18 turnovers, while MSU hit 48% of their attempts and only coughed it up 10 times.

Upper Iowa will return to the basketball court less than 24 hours after they left it for their final game of 2011. The Peacocks will face off against the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minn. at 4 p.m. Last year, UIU and SMSU split a pair of four-point decisions with each team winning at home. |
