The Peacocks struggled in the final game of their homestand tonight in Dorman Gym. Upper Iowa hosted the Marauders of the University of Mary in the Northern Sun Conference match up. U-Mary forced the UIU shooters into several tough shots and turnovers while creating good scoring opportunities on the offensive end. The Marauders claimed a 78-46 victory to post their seventh win of the season and return to .500 (4-4) in NSIC play.
U-Mary held major advantages all game long including a 44-18 advantage in points in the paint and 22-4 advantage in fast break points. Upper Iowa took an early 6-2 lead, but the Marauders used a 23-3 run to establish command of the game. The teams headed to the halftime break separated by seventeen points. The visitors continued to dominate the contest in the second half and built their lead to a high of thirty-five points.
Lana Otting led the Peacocks in the scoring column with 13 points, while Jen Herrick added 7 and Heidi McKean tallied 6 points and pulled down 6 rebounds.
McKenzie Foster paced the Marauders with 17 points and 5 assists.
Upper Iowa will hit the road for a pair of NSIC games next Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 8-9. The Peacocks will face St. Cloud State on Saturday and Concordia on Sunday. Both games are scheduled for a2 p.m. tip.
