The Peacock women’s basketball team was on the road for the first time in 2011 as they traveled to Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. Upper Iowa was outplayed from the outset as the Vikings jumped out to an early ten-point lead en route to a twenty point advantage at the break. The Vikings cruised in the second half expanding their lead to win the Northern Sun Conference match up 101-53. 

 

Upper Iowa was outscored 46-26 in the paint and 26-0 in fastbreak points. The team shot 33% for the game and turned the ball over 18 times. Augustana hit on 58% of their attempts including 11 trifectas.

 

Three Peacocks reached double figures in the scoring column led by Cassandra Deiters’ 12 points. Jeri Jacobson and Lana Otting each scored 11. Jen Herrick added 9 and Heidi McKean netted 8 for UIU. Jacobson and McKean both pulled down 6 rebounds, while Carrie Thoma grabbed 5. Jacobson added 4 assists, while McKean handed out 3.

 

Augustana was led by five double-figure scorers including 21 from Molly Hayes and 20 from Megan Doyle. Both Vikings hit 8 field goals on the night. Doyle also added 9 assists.

 

The Peacocks (1-15, 1-11 NSIC) won’t wait long to get back on the court. Upper Iowa faces the #7 Wildcats of Wayne State College tomorrow at 4 p.m. in Wayne, Neb.
