The Peacock women’s basketball team played in the consolation game this afternoon at the QU Tipoff Classic hosted by Quincy University. Upper Iowa played against Missouri Western and the Griffons dominated the second half to run away with a 87-54 victory. The loss dropped the Peacocks’ record to 0-3 on the young season.

 

UIU stayed close in the first half thanks to 47.8% shooting from the floor and headed to the locker rooms trailing by ten, 40-30. In the second half, the Peacock offense could not maintain the hot shooting and dropped to 25%, while the MWSU shooters kept pace above 45% for the game. The Griffons outscored the Peacocks 47-24 in the second stanza to earn their first win of the season.

 

Cassandra Deiters led the Peacocks with 17 points on 8 of 12 shooting and pulled in 5 boards as well. Jennifer Herrick added 12 points off the bench and also snared 4 rebounds. Jeri Jacobson and Lana Otting each chipped in 9 points. 

 

The Peacocks registered only 13 assists compared to their 20 turnovers which led to a 25-5 Griffon advantage in points off turnovers.

 

UIU will wrap up their non-conference schedule on Tuesday night, Nov. 23. The Peacocks will travel to the University of South Dakota to battle the Coyotes at 7 p.m.
