This Week in Women’s Basketball...

The Upper Iowa Women’s Basketball team hits the road this weekend as they travel to Quincy, Ill. to compete in the Quincy University Tipoff Tournament.  UIU battles the host Hawks of Quincy University in Friday night’s opener at 7 p.m.  Then, depending on the outcome of the 5 p.m. game, the Peacocks will take on Northern Michigan or Missouri Western State in the championship or consolation contest on Saturday.

Scouting the Hawks

Quincy University opened the 2010-11 regular season last Saturday by visiting Oakland City, Indiana to battle Oakland City University.  The Hawks won the contest 96-61 and enter Friday’s matchup with a 1-0 record.

The Hawks were led in scoring by senior forward Courtney Schuman and senior guard Stephanie Wagner who each scored 16 points in the rout over Oakland City.

Quincy has been selected to finish third in the North Division of the three-division Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Scouting the Wildcats

The Wildcats of Northern Michigan enter Friday’s game with Missouri Western State with a 0-1 record after dropping their season opener to Minnesota Duluth, 67-51 on November 15.

Northern Michigan has been selected to finish third in the North Division of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after qualifying for the NCAA tournament last season.

Scouting the Griffons

The Griffons of Missouri Western State open the 2010-11 season this weekend at the QU Tip off Tournament when they play Northern Michigan on Friday.

The Griffons have split a pair of exhibition contests this season as they lost to Missouri, 67-60, before defeating Benedictine College 79-61 two weeks ago.

MWSU has been selected to finish 11th by the coaches of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and 10th by the media.

Series History

Since transitioning to NCAA Division II, the Peacocks have never played any of the three schools competing in this weekend’s QU Tip Off Tournament.

...be Upper Iowa’s first victory since January 27, 2010.

...be UIU’s second non-conference win in their last three tries.

A pair of wins this weekend would...

...be the first time UIU has won back-to-back games since October 25 & 29, 2008.

...claim the championship of the QU Tip Off Tournament.

Looking Ahead

Following this weekend, the Peacocks have just one more non-conference game left on the schedule as they visit Vermillion, South Dakota on Tuesday, Nov. 23 to battle the Coyotes of South Dakota.

Tip off against the NCAA Division I opponent is scheduled for 7 p.m.
