The Peacock men's soccer team welcomed the Warriors of Waldorf College to Pattison Field on Wednesday afternoon. Upper Iowa dominated the match outshooting their guests 34 to 7, including a 24-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Peacocks found the back of the net four times in the match, while holding the Warriors without a goal for a 4-0 win. With the victory, Upper Iowa moves to 2-5-1 on the season.
Derek Oelmann scored Upper Iowa's first two goals of the match. The first, a 15 yard drive that found the top right corner of the goal, came in the 37th minute on an assist from Frank Atchison. The second goal, a 5 yard chip off a rebound, came in the 42nd minute and was assisted by Alan Martinez.
Upper Iowa added two more goals in the second half. Steve Kluck notched his second goal of the season in the 53rd minute when he got the ball off a turnover and shot it past the Warrior keeper from 7 yards. The final UIU goal came in the 88th minute when Amel Kantarevic took a free kick and knocked it off a defender and past the goalie. Both goals were unassisted.
For Waldorf, netminder Riley Hoistad did his best to keep the Warriors in the match making 20 saves for the match. Andy Youde played 73 minutes in goal for UIU and made 3 saves, while Kel Markert cleaned up the final 17 minutes making 2 saves.
The Peacocks will return to Pattison Field on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a match against the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch.
