The Peacock Women's Soccer team closed out their three-game Hawaiian road trip in dominating fashion Saturday afternoon as they forced seven goals and defeated Chaminade University 7-1, in Honolulu.
UIU took a 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to a Silver Sword own goal in the 20th minute.  But the Peacocks found the back of the net in the second half early and often.
Sophomore midfielder Shaina Marnell netted back-to-back goals in the 51st minute and 57th minute before Emily Gielau and Cara Mauldin added goals in the 65th and 78th minute, respectively.
The Silver Swords ended the shutout in the 80th minute, but freshman midfielder Valeria Ptasinski scored a pair of back-to-back goals before regulation ended to give UIU a 7-1 victory.
Marnell and Ptasinski added an assist each to their two goal afternoons while Jamie Krusie, Emma Vanderheyden and Catherine Bunting tallied assists as well.
Upper Iowa controlled the game offensively; outshooting Chaminade 26-8 and allowing just one Silver Sword corner kick.
The Peacocks (1-2) will host their home opener on Friday, Sept. 4 when Colorado School of Mines visit Pattison Field in Fayette for the first game of the Peacock Soccer Classic.  The Peacocks and Orediggers are scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
