Final Stats

Upper Iowa opened their run in the 2009 Northern Sun Conference Tournament as the #8 seed this afternoon in Marshall, Minn. The Peacocks took the field against the #1 seeded Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State. The Mustangs jumped out with seven runs in the first two innings and held the Peacocks to just three hits in the game.

SMSU scored three runs in the opening inning highlighted by a two-run homerun off the bat of their first basemen. In the second, the Mustangs tacked on four more runs as they pounded out six hits including five straight singles to open the inning.

Peacock starter Christy Loan took the loss allowing 7 runs on 13 hits while striking out 3. Loan, Kami Appelt, and Erin Bennek accounted for the three Upper Iowa hits.

Upper Iowa will face the fifth-seeded Mavericks of Minnesota State at 4 p.m. this afternoon in an elimination game.
