Game Two Stats

The Peacock softball team took to the road today and traveled to St. Paul, Minn. to face the Golden Bears of Concordia University. Upper Iowa and Concordia entered the game both sitting in the middle of the current Northern Sun Conference standings. The visitors put two runs on the board in the top half of the opening inning of game one, but would not score again as the home team grabbed a 5-2 victory in game one. In game two, UIU once again opened the top half of the first with a run, but CU put seven unanswered runs on the board for the 7-1 win. After the two losses, the Peacocks fall to 18-16 overall and 9-7 in the NSIC.

In game one, UIU jumped on the board early with two runs on three hits in the first. An Erin Bennek-double drove the first Peacock run in and Karrie Coon picked up an rbi when she walked with the bases loaded. Concordia rallied with a run in the first, a pair in the fourth including a solo homer, and a pair in the fifth including a two run blast.

Christy Loan took the loss after 6 innings of work after she allowed 5 runs on 8 hits while striking out only one Golden Bear batter. At the plate, Bennek recorded 3 hits including a pair of doubles; Casey Coon added two hits.

In the second game, Meredith Ang and Kami Appelt singled in the first with one out. Two batters later an error allowed Ang to score and give Upper Iowa a 1-0 lead. The run would be the final run of the day for the Peacocks as the Golden Bears scored seven unanswered runs to win 7-1.

Stefani Schulte took the loss in game two. Schulte threw 6 innings and allowed 7 runs, 6 earned, on 10 hits while striking out 4. The Peacock offense managed six hits; Ang and Appelt each tallied two hits in the game.

The Peacocks will be back on the road this Saturday with a Northern Sun double header at Winona State in Winona, Minn. The Peacocks and Warriors are set to open play at noon on the 18th.
