Upper Iowa's women's tennis team took some big steps to climb up the Northern Sun Conference standings. The Peacocks entered the weekend with a 2-2 NSIC record; but after three UIU conference victories this weekend, the team is now 5-2. Upper Iowa defeated Augustana College 5-4, Northern State 9-0, and Southwest Minnesota State 5-4.
On Friday, the Peacocks and Vikings matched up in a very tightly contested dual. Upper Iowa took #1 and #2 doubles to lead 2-1 heading into the singles matches. UIU and AC split the six singles matches. Kasey Huisman, Mallery Cox, and Nicole Henry all picked up solo victories.
The second dual on Friday saw the Peacocks dominate the Wolves of Northern State. UIU won all nine matches including a doubles win at #3 featuring Faith Atherton and Whitney Clark.
On Saturday, Upper Iowa matched up with Southwest Minnesota State in Minneapolis. UIU won three very close doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead into the singles portion of the dual. Southwest Minnesota won four of the six singles matches, but Peacock wins by Cox and Romer secured the win for Upper Iowa 5-4.
The Peacocks will return to the courts against Minnesota, Crookston next Saturday, Apr. 4.
