Final Stats
The Peacock women's basketball team traveled to Bismarck, North Dakota on Friday evening for a game with the Marauders of the University of Mary. Upper Iowa jumped out to a lead over the first five minutes, but the offense stalled and U-Mary took a thirteen point lead at halftime. The Marauders pushed their lead out to more than twenty points in the second half, but Upper Iowa slimmed the margin as time would down. In the end, U-Mary defeated Upper Iowa 79-63. With the loss, the Peacocks fall to 5-16 overall and 1-13 in the NSIC, while the Marauders improve to 12-9 overall and 7-7 in the conference.
The Peacocks led 12-7 just five and a half minutes into the first half. U-Mary's defense stiffened and held Upper Iowa to just 11 points for the remainder of the half. While the Marauder defense was being stingy, the UM offense was able to rack up 29 points and lead 36-23 at halftime.
U-Mary continued to push the pace in the second half. With just over six minutes to play in the game, the home team held a twenty-four point advantage, 71-47. Upper Iowa was able to find their stride over the final six minutes and cut into the Marauder lead. The Peacocks outscored their hosts 16-8 over the course of the final few minutes to cut the final deficit to sixteen.
Five Peacocks scored in double figues including Britney Iredale (13), Inga Briede and Chelsea Arndt (12), and Paige DeVine and Lana Otting (10). DeVine cleared 8 rebounds, while Briede pulled down 7. Otting handed out 4 assists on the night.
Upper Iowa will return to the court tomorrow night in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The Peacocks will face the Wolves of Northern State at 6 p.m.
