The Peacock tennis team travelled to Owatonna, Minnesota yesterday to get back on the court against one of the new additions to the Northern Sun Conference, St. Cloud State University. The Huskies (4-3, 3-1 NSIC) won two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches to pick up a 7-2 victory over the Peacocks (6-3, 1-2 NSIC).
Kelsey Montgomery and Nicole Henry combined for Upper Iowa's win at #3 Doubles. The Peacock pair defeated Aaryn Anderson and Tanya Halloran 8-5. Betsy Limburg picked up the Peacocks' lone singles victory at #5. Limburg defeated Kristie Eull 7-5, 6-4. Freshman Courtney Romer was the only other UIU player to take a set in their singles' match. Romer won the second set 7-5 after dropping the first set 6-1. Romer fell in the tiebreaker 10-8.
After the match Coach Chad Fenwick had the following thoughts, "We competed well against a very strong team today. We just weren't able to pull in many of the big points at critical times in a number of our matches."
The Peacock women's tennis team was originally scheduled to face the University of South Dakota and Briar Cliff College next Saturday, Feb. 28, but those two duals have been cancelled. Upper Iowa will now wait until their spring trip to Hilton Head, S.C. to compete on the court again. Duals in South Carolina will run from Mar. 9 through Mar. 12.
