UIU at Drake Box Score

The Peacock women's basket ball team was on the court for an exhibition game in Des Moines this afternoon. Upper Iowa lined up against the Bulldogs of Drake University. UIU played well as they trailed by just six with fifteen minutes to play. In the end, the Division I Bulldogs proved to be too much and took the victory 72-55.

The home team held a 39-26 advantage in rebounds including 15 offensive boards that the Bulldogs turned into 18 second chance points. The Peacocks forced Drake into 18 turnovers, but coughed it up 23 times themselves. For the game, the Peacocks shot 44.9% from the field, but only managed 10% from behind the arc and 58.8% at the charity stripe.

Drake built a ten-point lead through the first twenty minutes of the game, 39-29, but Upper Iowa outscored their hosts over the first five minutes of the second half to close the gap. The Peacocks came out of the halftime break on an 8-4 run to cut the margin to just six points, 43-37, with 15:27 to play. UIU's offense stalled over the next four minutes as the home team built a sixteen point lead thanks to a 10-0 run of their own. Drake reached their biggest lead, 70-50, en route to their 72-55 exhibition win.

Upper Iowa had three players in double figures led by Kenya Howard's 13 points. Cassandra Deiters (12) and Lana Otting (10) were the other UIU players in double digits. Deiters led the Peacocks on the glass with 6, while Heidi McKean added 4 boards. Otting handed out 5 assists.

The team will have one more exhibition game before the regular season starts. Upper Iowa will host the Norse of Luther College in the final tune up on Tuesday, Nov.10, at 7 p.m.
