Peacocks Ambush Marauders in Bismarck

The Upper Iowa women's volleyball program stormed into Bismarck, North Dakota tonight and won their match with the Marauders of the University of Mary in straight sets. The Peacocks were dominant in set one and then won two very close sets to take the match and move to 11-10 overall and 2-5 in the Northern Sun Conference. For the second straight year, Upper Iowa has tied the program's record for wins in a season. The Peacocks still have 13 matches left on their schedule this season.

UIU cruised through the first set winning 25-12. The Peacocks used a .304 hitting percentage and forced a -.154 hitting percentage including only 5 kills to 9 attack errors for the Marauders. Upper Iowa won sets two and three by identical 25-22 final scores. Upper Iowa continued to outhit U-Mary and finished the match with a .258 average, while the hosts hit only .038 in the three sets.

Offensively, the Peacocks were led by Nicky Brown and her 14 kills. Shea Meyermann added 11 kills and also led the team in defensive digs with 12. Keri Vance paced the offense with 36 assists on the evening. Emily Sparks played well and tallied three aces in the back line for Upper Iowa.

Upper Iowa will now head south to Aberdeen, S.D., to line up against the Wolves of Northern State in another NSIC match tomorrow afternoon, Oct. 3, at 4 p.m.
