The Upper Iowa Men's Soccer team closed out its latest three match homestand on Sunday as the welcomed the #10 ranked Bulldogs of Truman State University to Pattison Field in Fayette. Ninety minutes wasn't enough to determine a winner, but the Bulldogs struck just four minutes into the first overtime period to seal a 1-0 victory.
Sunday's contest turned out to be much more of a battle as both teams combined for 42 fouls, eight of which required yellow cards. Upper Iowa tallied 24 fouls while the visiting Bulldogs earned 18.
Goalkeeper Andy Youde and the Peacock defense was outstanding in Sunday's contest. Youde turned away 10 shots which included a penalty kick with just eight minutes to go in regulation to keep the score knotted at 0-0.
However, just four minutes into overtime, the Bulldogs took advantage of their 11th corner kick of the afternoon when Drew Pauk scored from a Charlie Backus assist to give TSU the 1-0 victory.
With the loss, Upper Iowa falls to 5-10-1 on the season while Truman State improves to 10-2-1.
The Peacocks will be back on the pitch Monday afternoon as they travel to Orange City, Iowa to line up against the Raiders of Northwestern College. The match is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start.
