Final Stats
On Saturday, the Peacocks jumped out to an early 10-2 lead on the host Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State. Britney Iredale got Upper Iowa off to a great start with six points in the early going. The home team began to find their stride though and went on a 26-6 run to lead 28-16 with just seven minutes to play in the first half. The teams traded makes and UIU went to the locker room trailing 35-25.
In the second half, the Mustangs came out and pushed their lead to eighteen, 50-32, after just five minutes. Over the next eight minutes, Upper Iowa dug deep and began to chip away at the margin. The Peacocks had cut the deficit in half with just under eight minutes to play, 54-45. Andrea Downs scored seven in the run, while Iredale added six. The two teams played evenly for the remainder of the game and the Peacocks fell, 71-60.
Iredale led the Peacocks with her fourth double-double of the season; the senior racked up 27 points and 11 rebounds. Downs added 15 points.
Upper Iowa will remain on the road for two more NSIC games next weekend. The Peacocks will play the Vikings of Augustana College on Friday night and the Wildcats of Wayne State College on Saturday night. Both games are scheduled to tip at 6 p.m.
