Mankato, Minn. - The #5 Minnesota State women's basketball teams continued its torrid pace as it downed the Upper Iowa Peacocks, 87-77, Friday evening in the Taylor Center on the campus of Minnesota State University. The win brings MSU's record to 13-0, with a 6-0 Northern Sun Conference record. Upper Iowa falls to 5-9 on the season and 1-6 in NSIC action.

The Peacocks came out firing, starting the game on an 8-0 run. The Mavericks would respond quickly and pull within a point of Upper Iowa at 10-9. MSU would continue to play catch up as it trailed 21-17 with 9:48 left in the half

Minnesota State would eventually take its first lead of the contest behind a field goal from sophomore guard Nicole Christianson, to put the Mavericks in front 25-23, with 5:10 left in the half.

Upper Iowa would end the half outscoring MSU 15-6 to take a 38-31 advantage into the locker room. The deficit, marked only the second time this season that the Mavericks entered the half trailing, with the last time coming on Nov. 29, against Nebraska-Kearney (48-39).

The Mavericks began their comeback early in the second half, as they took the lead at 52-51 after a three point shot from freshman guard Lauren Barber, with 12:38 left in the game.

Minnesota State would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way, as it finished the game outscoring the Peacocks 35-26, for its 13th win of the season at 87-77.
