The Peacock volleyball team played their third and fourth matches in the UNK Fall Classic on Saturday. The tournament took place at the University of Nebraska-Kearney this past weekend. On day one, the Upper Iowa lost to #13 UN-Kearney but then defeated Chadron State. On day two, the Peacocks lost to #3 Truman State in three sets (17-25, 16-25, 23-25), but bounced back to defeat Incarnate Word in four sets (25-22, 21-25, 25-19, 25-20). At the end of the day, Upper Iowa improved their record to 6-3 on the year.
Against Truman State, the Peacocks were led by Shea Meyermann, who tallied 16 kills in 30 attempts (.467 hitting percentage). UIU also got a good effort from Kim Humpal (6 kills in 11 attempts), Keri Vance (30 assists, 9 digs), and Dani Coppin (11 digs).
In Upper Iowa's victory over Incarnate Word, the team's offense was once again led by Meyermann. Meyermann racked up 11 more kills and led the team in digs with 16. Beth Deutmeyer added 10 kills and 5 blocks, while Sara Vance registered 8 kills. Keri Vance set up the offense with 35 assists. Dani Coppin helped the defense with 12 digs, and Humpal had 6 blocks at the net. On the service line, Upper Iowa got eight aces including 4 from Tatiana Jackson and 3 from Keri Vance.
Meyermann was named to the UNK Fall Classic All-Tournament Team after tallying 48 kills in the four matches.
Upper Iowa will be back on the court tomorrow night when they travel to Oskaloosa, Iowa to face the Lady Statesmen of William Penn University at 7 p.m.
