Upper Iowa 7 - Wartburg 2

The Upper Iowa women's tennis team made the short trip west to Waverly on Tuesday afternoon for a match with the Knights of Wartburg College. Since Upper Iowa brought back the women's tennis program in the fall of 2006, the Peacocks have not defeated the Knights. Wartburg took both meetings between the two teams in the fall of 2006, 7-2 and 5-4, and the only meeting in the fall of 2007, 8-1.

In fact, the Peacocks had never defeated the Knights in women's tennis... until Tuesday afternoon. Upper Iowa picked up the victory 7-2 and improved their dual record this fall to 8-0. The Peacocks are currently on an 8 match win streak in dual competition. The last UIU loss was to Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a Division I school, at the end of March last Spring.

The Peacocks took two of three doubles matches thanks to win by pairs Kasey Huisman and Mallery Cox and Betsy Limburg and Nicole Henry. In singles competition, UIU defeated their hosts in five of the six matches. Cox, Courtney Romer, Kelsey Montgomery, Limburg, and Whitney Clark all won their singles matches to give Upper Iowa the 7-2 win. Upper Iowa will next head to the ITA Regional Tournament in Kearney, Nebraska this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26-27. After the tournament, the Peacocks have three duals remaining on their fall schedule. UIU will head to Quincy University in Illinois to face Truman State and Quincy in a pair of duals next Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 1 and 4 p.m. Upper Iowa will finish their fall schedule at home with a dual against Simpson in Fayette on Homecoming Saturday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m.
