Final Stats
The Upper Iowa volleyball team opened their 2008 campaign in fine fashion with wins against the University of Illinois-Springfield and the University of Sioux Falls in their first two games of the Early Bird Tournament hosted by St. Ambrose University.
The Peacocks won their first match of the day in straight sets. Upper Iowa won set one 26-24 before dominating the second and third sets of the match. UIU won the second set, 25-15, and the third set, 25-13.
The second match saw Upper Iowa drop the first set 25-21 to Sioux Falls, but then the Peacocks rallied for a 25-15 win in set two, a 25-12 in set three, and a two-point win in set four, 26-24.
After the two wins, first-year Head Coach Shari Robertson had the following thoughts, "We started off a bit tentative, but once we got started, everyone stepped up and did a great job. Today was a complete team effort. We had very good passing in both matches and we were able to score when we needed to. I was very happy to see that the team was able to bounce back after the first set loss to Sioux Falls tonight as well. Tomorrow's games will be a good test for the team."
Upper Iowa will return to the court tomorrow to face the host Bees of St. Ambrose at 11:00 a.m. and then finish their time in Davenport when they take the court against Quincy at 3:00 p.m.
