Final Stats
The Orediggers of the Colorado School of Mines dominated the team's season opener against the Peacocks of Upper Iowa. The home team defeated their guests 9-1 and broke the single-game record for goals. The previous record was eight goals scored in a 2002 contest against CSU-Pueblo.
Mines took a 3-0 advantage into halftime scoring in the 2nd, 39th, and 45th minutes. The final goal just got by the outstretched fingertips of UIU goalie Andy Youde.
Mines continued their offensive attack in the second half scoring six more goals.
The lone Peacock tally came from the foot of Craig Signorin. Signorin's goal in the 65th minute was assisted by Frank Atchison.
Upper Iowa (0-1) will stay on the road in Colorado and travel to Colorado Christian for a match on Saturday, Aug. 30, at 3:30 p.m. The Peacocks will play in their home opener next Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 5 p.m. on Pattison Field in Fayette. UIU will host Mt. Mercy in the home opener.
