Peacocks Sweep Warriors in NSIC Double Header

The Peacocks swept the Warriors of Winona State in the first two games of four this weekend between the teams. Upper Iowa won game one 9-4 and game two 8-1.

Brian Solemsaas picked up a complete game win in game one, his third straight complete game win. Solemsaas threw seven innings allowing four runs on twelve hit while striking out four. Brad Mey picked up the win in game two in relief of Zach Raff, who had to leave the game with an injury to his throwing hand. Raff suffered the injury catching a line drive and turning a double play in the first inning. Mey threw six innings and only allowed an unearned run on two hits while striking out eight.

At the plate, Nick Fjelland the Peacocks going 4-6 including his first homer of the season and 3 rbi. Fjelland also added three stolen bases. Travis Mather rapped out three hits on the day including a double in game two. Designated hitter Lucas Wilsing tallied a team-high four rbi on a pair of doubles. Ryan Arp stood out in game one with a homerun to left that tied the game at 2-2 in the second inning.

Upper Iowa and Winona State will be back on Robertson Woods Field tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. for the second double header between these two teams. The Peacocks are now 23-23 on the season and 19-7 in the NSIC. UIU is currently in second place in the conference.
