Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score
The Upper Iowa softball team lost both games on Tuesday at Winona State in an NSIC double header. In the first game the Peacock bats were held silent as they lost 3-0 to the Warriors. In game two, Upper Iowa took an early 1-0 lead, but Winona State scored nine unanswered runs to take the game 9-1. The losses drop Upper Iowa's record to 8-20 overall and 5-4 in the Northern Sun. Winona State is in second place in the NSIC, while Upper Iowa occupies the 4th spot.
The Peacock's were unable to capitalize in the first game as they left seven runners on base and struck out eleven times in the first game. The Warriors scored unearned runs in the first and fifth innings as a result of Peacock errors, while an earned run crossed the plate in the third off a pair of Warrior hits.
Danielle DeSerano (3-4) was the only bright spot in the batting order for the Peacocks. Nikki Davis pitched well on the mound throwing six innings and allowing three runs, only one of which was earned. Davis struck out four while giving eight hits.
In game two, the visitors took an early lead in the top of the first inning. The Peacocks got started with one out when Stephany Daubenspeck walked. After advancing to second on a passed ball, she later crossed home plate on a two out, rbi-single off the bat of Davis which gave UIU a 1-0 lead after the first. The Warriors rallied quickly with three runs in their half of the first. The Warriors did not look back as they put another six runs on the board over the next four innings. The game was stopped after the fifth inning when Winona State took a 9-1 lead due to the NCAA run rule.
Upper Iowa will next travel to St. Paul, Minnesota to take the field against the Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul. The two teams will match up in an NSIC double header this Thursday, Apr. 17, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
