Final Stats
The Peacock women's basketball team played host to the Lady Statesmen of William Penn University in an intrastate non-conference match up. Upper Iowa took the floor looking to avenge last year's overtime loss in Fayette to William Penn.
The Peacocks shot a sizzling 56% in the first half including an even hotter 64% from behind the three-point line hitting 7 of their 11 trifectas. UIU took their seven point halftime lead, 47-40, and doubled it, 61-47, six and a half minutes into the second half. William Penn rallied with an 11-0 run to cut the Peacock lead to just three points, 61-58, with nine minutes to play. The home team rebuilt their lead with a 7-0 run of their own. Upper Iowa connected on 6 of 8 free throws in the final minute to maintain their advantage and get the win 82-72. With the victory, Upper Iowa improved to 5-6 overall, while William Penn fell to 5-10.
Melissa Fitz finished with 22 points including twenty in the first half on 6 of 6 shooting from behind the arc. Three other Peacocks scored in double figures; Lene Lox (14), Lana Otting (11), Lyndsay Westgaard (10). On the boards, Britney Iredale pulled down 11 and Otting nabbed 7. Otting also handed out 7 assists in the game, while Andrea Downs dished out 5.
The Peacocks will return to Dorman Gym this weekend, Jan. 2-3, for a pair of Northern Sun Conference games. UIU will host the Marauders of the University of Mary of Friday and the Wolves of Northern State University on Saturday. Both games are scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m.
