Upper Iowa welcomed Northern State to Pattison Field on Sunday afternoon for a Northern Sun match up. The Wolves entered the match a half game in front of the Peacocks in the NSIC Standings. Both offenses were kept off the scoreboard in the first half although NSU outshot UIU 6-2 in the first 45 minutes. The Wolves out the ball in the back of the net early in the second half, but the Peacocks tied the game fourteen minutes later.
Neither team added a score over the remainder of regulation and the match moved to overtime. The Peacocks had the best chance in the first overtime when a shot hit the post with two minutes to play. The game moved to a second overtime. The teams could not get a gamewinner in the second extra period and the match finished in a tie. UIU finished the regular season 6-5-2.
The Wolves score came in the 48th minute when Kailee Hyland finsihed a cross from Maggie Fedor. Kirbie Wages also picked up an assist when she started the play on a freekick.
Amy Campbell was able to pull the home team even in the 61st minute. Campbell's 11th goal of the season was assisted by Cara Mauldin.
Dee Wood made six saves for the Wolves, while Melissa Heitzman made eight saves for the Peacocks.
After the match, the team honored Senior Jennifer Lee. Lee has been with the Peacock soccer program since 2005. In her four year career, Lee has played in 79 matches, starting 74 of them. The Kenosha-native has recorded 81 points thanks to 19 goals and 43 assists. She holds UIU records for assists in a game with 4, assists in a season with 20, and assists in a career with 43.
Upper Iowa finishes the regular season in a tie for 7th place in the NSIC with St. Cloud. The teams opponent in the first round of the NSIC Championship will be determined by a coin flip. The Peacocks will either travel to Winona State or Minnesota State for their tournament match.
