Box Score

The Upper Iowa volleyball team hosted the first of three straight home matches tonight as they close out their 2008 campaign. The Peacocks played host to the Warriors of Winona State University. The two teams got together on Halloween night less than two weeks ago in Winona where the Warriors took the match in four sets. The Peacocks battled hard tonight but found themselves playing from behind quite a bit. Winona State took the first set by a 25-21 count and the second by a 25-23 score. Upper Iowa rallied late in set number three to force extra play and ground out a 30-28 victory to force a fourth set. Upper Iowa had their worst sideout percentage of the night in the fourth and dropped the deciding set, 25-19. With the win, Winona State improved to 11-16 overall and evened their NSIC record to 9-9, while Upper Iowa falls to 11-19 overall and 3-15 in conference play.

The Peacocks were led by their two senior middles. Beth Deutmeyer tallied 15 kills, while Kim Humpal racked up 11. Sara Vance and Shea Meyermann added 10 kills apiece and Kristy Hinrichs chipped in 8. The offense was set up by Keri Vance who picked up 49 assists on the night. Defensively, Sara Vance led the way with 13 digs and two assisted blocks.

Upper Iowa will play the remainder of their schedule at home. The final two matches on the slate are set for Friday, Nov. 14, and Saturday, Nov. 15. On Friday the Peacocks will welcome the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth at 7 p.m. On Saturday the team will host the Beavers of Bemidji State at 3 p.m. The Peacock seniors will be honored prior to the Saturday matinee.
