Oct. 26, 2008

Box Score

The wind was howling, the temperatures were falling below 40, and snow was pelting the player's faces on Pattison Field in Fayette this afternoon. The women's soccer teams of Upper Iowa and Southwest Minnesota State braved the elements to play a Northern Sun Conference match. The Peacocks "Celebrated Courage" by wearing pink headbands in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Peacocks relied on their veteran leaders Jennifer Lee and Amy Campbell to pick up the decisive win and improve their record to 8-8-2 overall and 5-5-1 in the NSIC. After the loss, the Mustangs record dropped to 1-14-0 overall and 1-10-0 in conference play. After the day's action in the NSIC, the Peacock moved from an 8th place tie to a 7th place tie with two regular season games to play.

The Peacocks got on the board late in the first half when Jolene Ridenhour scored her first collegiate goal in the 43rd minute. Ridenhour scored thanks to assists from Lee and Campbell. The teams hustled to the locker rooms at halftime as UIU clung to a 1-0 lead. In the second half, the home team had the wind at their backs and kept heavy pressure on the Mustang defense. Lee scored goals in the 56th minute and the 63rd minute to stake Upper Iowa to a 3-0 lead. Lee's first goal was a long drive from 30 yards that went out of the Mustang goalie's reach. The second goal, a 10 yard chip, came on an assist from Campbell. The Peacocks added a fourth goal in the 69th minute when Campbell scored her 10th goal of the season. With the goal, Campbell has tied the record for most goals in a career (24). The final goal was assisted by Lee and Jamie Krusie.

Southwest Minnesota State scratched the scoreboard in the 78th minute when Tatum Borstad found the back of the net on a pass from Coutney McCarthy.

Upper Iowa will return to Pattison Field Friday afternoon, Oct. 31, for a match with the Marauders of the University of Mary. The Peacocks and Marauders will begin their match at 12 p.m with a men's game against U-Mary to follow. Come celebrate Halloween on Pattison Field.
