The Upper Iowa women's soccer team played host to the Mavericks of Minnesota State on Pattison Field Saturday afternoon. The Peacocks trailed 1-0 late into the match, but the home team tied the game with a goal in the 76th minute. The teams failed to break the tie in regulation, but the Mavericks found the back of the net just over four minutes into the overtime period. The loss was UIU's fifth NSIC loss; four of the losses have come by one goal and three of those matches were lost in overtime. The Peacocks' record is now 7-8-2 overall and 4-5-1 in the NSIC.

The Mavericks were first on the board with a goal in the 36th minute. Leslie Peterson scored on a header that started with an MSU corner kick. Carly Petersen and Gina Paletta picked up assists on the match's first goal. The teams headed to the break with the visitors holding a 10-6 advantage in shots. In the second half, the Mavericks continued to take shots at the Peacock net, but rarely found the frame.

The Peacocks had a couple of golden opportunities go awry, but in the 76th minute Shaina Marnell found a streaking Amy Campbell moving toward the Maverick goal. Campbell put the brakes on to make a move past an MSU defender and then drove a rocket past the Maverick net minder to tie the game at 1-1.

After the match moved into the first overtime period, Minnesota State seemed to take control of the ball taking four shots in the extra period. Laura Leber ended the game when she hit a shot inside the right post from 8 yards out.

For the game, MSU outshot UIU 31-10, but Upper Iowa only trailed 8-5 in shots on goal.

Upper Iowa will return to Pattison Field tomorrow afternoon for a match with the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University. The Peacocks and Mustangs will begin their match at 1 p.m.
