St. Cloud, Minn. - St. Cloud State (7-5-1, 5-3-1 NSIC) and Upper Iowa (6-7-2, 3-4-1 NSIC) played even soccer throughout Homecoming morning, as the Huskies and Peacocks battled to a 0-0 tie at Husky Stadium early Saturday.
Elizabeth Kelly was solid in net for the Huskies, recording eight saves and moving to 7-5-1 on the season by picking up her third shutout of the year. Melissa Heitzman notched six saves for Upper Iowa to boost her record to 6-6-2.
Things on the scoresheet were even as well, with the Huskies holding a slight advantage in shots (17-15), corner kicks (7-6) and fouls (19-17). The tie was the first this season for SCSU and second for UIU.
St. Cloud State's best opportunity came late in the first half, as Lindsey Sather (Eden Prairie), draped by a defender, blasted a shot towards the right post. Heitzman, however, made a lunging save to preserve the tie. UIU's best chances came off a pair of corner kicks, as the Huskies used two saves by defenders to earn their first tie of the season.
The Peacocks will move on to St. Paul, Minnesota tomorrow. Upper Iowa will line up against the Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul at 1:00 p.m.
