The Upper Iowa continued their current Northern Sun Conference road trip on Saturday afternoon in Marshall, Minnesota. The Peacocks took the court against the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University, the #6 ranked team in the country. It was the first meeting of the two teams this season. The Peacocks competed in the first set losing 25-21, but the young Upper Iowa team could not stand up to their hosts in the second and third sets falling 25-17 and 25-12. After the match, UIU's record fell to 10-11 overall and 2-8 in the NSIC, while #6 SMSU improved to 20-2 overall and 9-1 in the conference.
Shea Meyermann led the Peacock offensive attack with her best kill total in a few matches. The junior from Camanche, Iowa tallied 13 kills while only committing one error and hitting .500. Kristy Hinrichs racked up 8 kills and Beth Deutmeyer added 7 kills. Keri Vance dished out 33 assists (11/set) on the afternoon. Libero Tatiana Jackson registered 17 digs to lead the UIU defense, while Sara Vance added 10 digs.
Upper Iowa will stay on the road this coming weekend, Oct. 17 and 18, with matches in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Wayne, Nebraska. The Peacocks will line up against the Vikings of Augustana College on Friday night at 7 p.m. and the Wildcats of Wayne State College on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
