Box Score

The Peacocks took to the hardwood on Friday night seeking to become the first team this season to hang a loss on the #3 Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul. Concordia entered the game with a perfect record of 14-0 overall and 5-0 in the Northern Sun, while Upper Iowa came into the game with a record of 4-13 overall and 0-5 in the NSIC. The two teams battled through the first half to a four-point margin that saw the home team ahead. The #3 team in the nation showed their moxie as they outscored the Peacocks 22-6 through the first nine minutes of the second half. The Golden Bears used the run to pull away with the victory, 70-53, and kept their winning streak alive.

Upper Iowa's tough play in the first half was thanks to the play of Andrea Downs. Downs scored 8 points in the first half and dished out two assists. Chelsea Petersen netted 5 points, while Paige DeVine chipped in 4 points. The Peacock defense played well in the opening twenty minutes forcing the Golden Bears into 8 turnovers and only allowed the home team 10 made field goals.

Concordia began the second half by holding the visitors to just six points in the opening nine minutes. The home team built a 20-point cushion by scoring 22 in the same time frame. The Peacocks rallied late and cut the lead to fourteen points with 1:36 to play. The rally came too late and the Peacocks dropped their ninth straight decision.

Downs led the Peacocks in scoring with 16 points, while Petersen was the only other Peacock in double figures with 10 points. Petersen recorded a double-double as she cleaned 10 boards off the glass. Downs added 8 rebounds. Jodi Best dished out 4 assists and Downs handed out 3.

Upper Iowa will have to bounce back quickly as they face the Dragons of Minnesota State Moorhead tomorrow evening in Moorhead, Minnesota at 6 p.m. The Dragons are in 5th place in the NSIC with a 3-3 record after falling to Winona State in double overtime tonight.
