Minnesota, Crookston Wins Tight Battle with Upper Iowa

The Golden Eagles of Minnesota, Crookston came to Fayette to battle the Peacocks in a Northern Sun conference match. Both teams entered the game winless in conference play, but the Golden Eagles rallied after losing game one 32-30, to win three very close games and the match.

The Peacocks hit .333 as a team in the third first game, but their hitting percentage went down drastically in game two and continued to plummet as the games continued. In game two the team hit .128, while in game three the team hit .091 and in game four the team hit .042.

The two teams both registered 55 kills for the game and UIU only committed two more attack errors, but the match turned on the serves of Minnesota, Crookston. The Golden Eagles drove home 13 service aces, while the Peacocks only converted on 8 aces. Both teams played evenly at the net with the visitors blocking 8 balls and the home team blocking 6.

The Peacocks had no answer for the combination attack of Cassie Yates (50 assists) and Theresa Crance (21 kills). Darcy Hageman led the Peacocks in kills with 14 and was second in digs with 13. Shea Meyermann also played well with 13 kills and 14 digs. Keri Vance (24 assists) and Tatiana Jackson (23 assists) set up the Peacock offense on the night. Upper Iowa got a lift in the match from freshman Lydia Lofte, who played in two games and seemed to settle the Peacocks' serve receive problems.

Minnesota, Crookston (3-11, 1-4 NSIC) will play at Winona State tomorrow afternoon, while Upper Iowa (3-10, 0-4 NSIC) will host Bemidji State at 5 p.m.
