The Upper Iowa women's tennis team traveled to Denver, Colorado to play four matches on Saturday and Sunday, September 16 & 17. The Peacocks went up against Colorado Christian in the first match and won by a dominating 9-0 score. The team was victorious again with a 5-4 decision over Metro State in their second match. On Sunday, the Peacocks faced Fort Hays but came up on the short end of a 5-4 final match score. Upper Iowa lost their fourth and final match of the weekend to Mesa State 8-1.
Against Colorado Christian, Upper Iowa had a dominating performance from both the doubles and singles matches. The #1 doubles match from Jennifer Bradfield and Kasey Huisman started the scoring for the Peacocks with an 8-6 win. Mallery Cox and Kelsey Montgomery took the #2 doubles match 8-5, while Erin Kelley and Katie Rodewald finished the doubles matches with an 8-1 victory.
The singles matches went just as well for the Peacocks, with Huisman (6-0, 6-0), Cox (6 -4, 6-4), Montgomery (6-4, 6-4), and Betsy Limburg (6-0, 6-1) winning matches #2, #3, #4, and #5 in orderly fashion. Bradfield (2-6, 6-0, (10-6)) and Nicole Henry (4-6, 6-3, (10-1)) came out on top in matches #1 and #6 to add points to the Peacocks' final score.
In the second match, the Peacocks started out by winning the #1 doubles match with Bradfield and Huisman 8-2. Cox and Montgomery went up against some tough opponents losing 8-0. Rodewald and Kelley picked up a win in the #3 match 8-5. In the singles matches, Huisman got Upper Iowa going with a 6-2, 4-6, (10-5) win in #2 match. Cox (6-1, 6-2) and Kelley (6-2, 6-3) won matches #3 and #6 to help seal the team victory against Metro State.
Upper Iowa faced Fort Hays in the third match of the road trip. Huisman and Bradfield won the first match with a score of 8-5. Montgomery and Cox also got a doubles match victory with a 9-8 (7-2) score. Bradfield started the singles matches with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 victory in match #1. Upper Iowa struggled in the next few matches, dropping some close matches including Huisman's 6-7, (6-8), 4-6 loss and Rodewald's 4-6, 0-6 loss. Kelley did end match #6 with a 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 10-6 victory.
The Peacocks final match of the day was against a strong Mesa State team. The team lost the first two doubles matches from Bradfield/Huisman (8-2) and Cox/Montgomery (8-1), while Kelley and Rodewald battled in #3 doubles match, but came up short with an 8-6 loss.
The singles matches saw Bradfield (2-6, 3-6), Huisman (4-6, 1-6) dropping the #1 and #2 matches. Cox (1-6, 6-3 (10-8) picked up the win in match #3, but was the only win Upper Iowa could get with Kelley (2-6, 2-6), Limburg (1-6, 1-6), and Henry (0-6, 1-6) dropping #4, #5, and #6 matches.
The Peacocks travel to the ITA Regional in Maryville, Missouri this weekend before hosting the Upper Iowa Challenge in Waterloo, Iowa on Sept. 29th and 30th.
