Upper Iowa Loses at Rockhurst

The Peacocks took the floor tonight in Kansas City, Missouri looking for their fifth win of the season. Upper Iowa traveled to Rockhurst University to face the Hawks in a non-conference match up.

The last three times these two teams have met, the games have been decided by a combined total of 16 points. Upper Iowa has won two of the last three; 90-78 during the 2005-06 season and 63-62 during the 2004-05 season. Rockhurst defeated Upper Iowa last year coming from behind to defeat the Peacocks 67-64. The Hawks took an eleven-point lead at halftime and extended the margin to twenty-four before taking the victory 68-48 to drop the Peacocks record to 4-10 overall.

The Peacock offense struggled throughout the game shooting just 28% from the field and 18% (2-11) from behind the arc. UIU hustled after their misses collecting eighteen offensive rebounds, but only scored eight second chance points on the night.

Upper Iowa's defense kept the visitors within striking distance as they kept the Hawks under thirty points in the first half, but Rockhurst shot 48.5% from the floor in the second half including three of eight shooting from three as the home team cruised to victory.

Britney Iredale led the Peacocks in scoring with 16 points on 7-16 shooting, while Christa Hammel shot 4-5 from the field and 3-3 at the line to net 11 points. Chelsea Petersen added 9 points, while Sara Best chipped in 8. Petersen led UIU in rebounding with 9, while Hammel pulled down 7 boards. Iredale grabbed 6 boards and Best and Paige DeVine each nabbed 5 caroms. Andrea Downs dished out 5 assists for the visitors.

Upper Iowa will travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin for their final non-conference game at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The Rangers and Peacocks will tip off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29.
