Peacocks Lose Tight Battle to #10 Mustangs in Season Finale

The Peacock volleyball team took the floor for the final time in Dorman Gym this season. Upper Iowa welcomed Southwest Minnesota State to Fayette for the final game of the 2007 season. The team honored Darcy Hageman and Keely Jones before the game as the two seniors on the Peacocks' squad. The visitors handed the home team a lopsided loss in game one (30-17), but Upper Iowa played very well in games two and three losing 30-28 and 30-25 to the #10 team in the nation.

Beth Deutmeyer recorded 13 kills while only committing 6 errors (.333). Shea Meyermann and Hageman were also strong on offense with 10 and 9 kills, respectively. Tatiana Jackson and Keri Vance set up the offense with 20 and 18 assists, respectively. Heidi Laitinen took over libero duties in game two and tallied 13 digs in games two and three, while Meyermann added 10 digs. Hageman (3 blocks), Keely Jones (2 blocks), and Kim Humpal (2 blocks) all played well at the net.

The Mustangs hit .361 as a team in game one, while the Peacocks only managed a .024. Upper Iowa's offense was very good in the second game as they hit .366, while Southwest Minnesota State hit .217. Both teams played evenly in game three as the visitors hit .275 and the home team hit .241.

Upper Iowa finished the season with a 4-26 record overall and remained winless in Northern Sun Conference play (0-18). The team graduates two players and will return ten players for the 2008 campaign.
