The Peacock volleyball team hosted the Wildcats of Wayne State College on Friday evening. The visitors walked on the floor in Dorman Gym and dominated the Peacocks in three games. At times, the Peacocks were able to hang with the Wildcats in game three, but in the end the visitors won by the scores 30-15, 30-17, and 30-23.
Beth Deutmeyer led the Peacock offensive attack with 9 kills, while Darcy Hageman and Keely Jones finished with 8 kills each. Tatiana Jackson and Keri Vance handed out the assists on the night picking up 17 and 12, respectively. Shea Meyermann recorded 11 digs on the night to lead the defense.
Wayne State hit .327 as a team piling up 53 kills and only 16 errors, while Upper Iowa only hit .108 as a team recording 33 kills and 21 errors. The Peacocks did not help themselves in the serve categories either. UIU committed 4 service errors and 7 service reception errors that led directly to 11 Wildcat points in the match.
Upper Iowa will play their final match of the 2007 season tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Dorman Gym. The Peacocks will welcome the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State, the #10 team in the nation. The team will honor both Darcy Hageman and Keely Jones as the lone seniors on this year's squad before the match. The season finale can be seen on www.NorthernSun.tv.
