The Peacock volleyball team was back in action on Prochaska Court in Fayette on Friday night. Upper Iowa welcomed the Marauders of the University of Mary for a Northern Sun Conference match. The teams battled in three close games, but the Marauders came out on top in all three and improved to 7-8 overall and 3-6 in the NSIC. Upper Iowa's record dropped to 4-15 overall and 0-8 in the NSIC.
U-Mary and Upper Iowa couldn't decide game one in regulation, but a late, four-point rally by the Marauders gave them the victory 31-29. Upper Iowa hit .234 in the game with 18 kills and 7 errors, while U-Mary hit .250 with 16 kills and 5 errors.
The two teams went back and forth again in game two. The visitors finished the game off, 30-27, and headed to the locker room ahead two games to none. The home team hit .267 with 18 kills and 6 errors, but U-Mary hit .341 with 19 kills and only 4 errors.
After the break, Upper Iowa came out and took an early lead, but U-Mary stormed back. The lead changed hands a few times as the teams closed in on the twenty-point mark. The Marauders finished the game on a seven-point run in winning game three, 30-22. UIU hit .186 in the final game with 15 kills and 7 errors; while UM hit .280 with 10 kills and 3 errors. U-Mary was able to take advantage of 7 Peacock service errors in game three.
The Peacocks were led by Shea Meyermann (14 kills, 7 digs), Keely Jones (11 kills, 2 blocks), Lydia Lofte (9 kills, 9 digs), Beth Deutmeyer (8 kills), Keri Vance (27 assists), Tatiana Jackson (14 assists, 9 digs), and Heidi Laitinen (13 digs).
Upper Iowa will return to the court tomorrow afternoon. The Peacocks and Wolves of Northern State University will line up against each other at 4:00 p.m. in Dorman Gym tomorrow, Oct. 6.
