NSIC Soccer Tournament Bracket

Upper Iowa's women's soccer team traveled to Crookston and Bemidji, Minnesota for their final NSIC weekend of the 2007 season on Saturday and Sunday. Upper Iowa picked up a win over the Golden Eagles of Minnesota, Crookston, but lost to the Beavers of Bemidji State to stop their winning streak at five games. The Peacocks locked up third place on Saturday with the win and have earned a home game in the Northern Sun Conference Tournament this coming week. The match will mark the first NSIC Tournament game that Upper Iowa University has hosted in any sport.

With Saturday's win over the Golden Eagles, the Peacocks set a new school record for wins in a season with 12. The old mark of 11 wins was set in 2005 when the team was transitioning from Division III to Division II. Upper Iowa received two goals from Lauren Smith and one goal each from Cara Mauldin, Jennifer Lee, Amy Campbell, and Erin Rehfeldt (Penalty Kick). Four Peacocks handed out assists in the 6-1 blowout; they were Jennifer Burnett, Mauldin, Campbell, and Erica Baedke. Melissa Heitzman picked up the win in goal with 66 minutes of action while allowing one goal and making two saves; Sarah Hiatt relieved her and did not allow a goal over the final 24 minutes.

The Beavers and Peacocks hooked up on Sunday for the final regular season game of the year. Bemidji scored early off a corner kick, but Upper Iowa answered right back with a goal by Baedke which was assisted by Ashleigh Lengel. The Beavers scored two goals over the next forty minutes to take a 3-1 lead on the Peacocks. UIU managed a goal in the 62nd minute as Amy Campbell hit on her 11th goal of the year. Baedke was credited with the assist. The road team was unable to get the tying goal and suffered only their second conference loss of the season.

Upper Iowa's record is now 12-7-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the NSIC. The Peacocks will host the Dragons of Minnesota State Moorhead this Wednesday, Oct. 31, on Pattison Field at 3:00 p.m. UIU defeated MSUM 2-0 on October 20th in Fayette.
