The Upper Iowa volleyball team traveled to Marshall, Minnesota for their latest Northern Sun Conference match with the #4 Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State. The Mustangs took an early lead in game one and used a pair of runs in games two and three to sweep the match and win 3-0.

The home team came out in game one and took a commanding 13-3 lead. The Peacocks began to battle evenly, but the Mustangs turned up the heat and scored ten of the final thirteen points to win 30-13. UIU came out strong in game two and took an early 10-6 lead and maintained the lead until SMSU tied the game at 13-13. The ranked Mustangs used a short run to take a lead, but the Peacocks battled back and trailed 21-18. The home squad scored nine of the final ten points to win 30-19. Upper Iowa ran out to a 10-7 lead again in game three, but Southwest Minnesota State went on a 14-3 run to take a commanding 21-13 lead. UIU crawled back to 22-16, but SMSU scored eight of the final ten points to win 30-18.

Beth Deutmeyer and Shea Meyermann led the Peacock offense with 10 and 9 kills, respectively. Keri Vance tallied 19 assists, while Nicole Burger led the team with 8 digs. Deutmeyer added 1 solo block and 4 assisted blocks.

The Peacocks (4-12, 0-6 NSIC) will head to Wayne State in Nebraska on Saturday, Sept. 29. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
