Upper Iowa dropped both games over the final weekend of their 2011-12 season at Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth, but #Whitney Kieffer# went out with a bang. Kieffer averaged 25 points per game over the weekend including 31 points on Friday in Bemidji as UIU rallied from a huge deficit and nearly got the win. The Scales Mound, Illinois native converted all 14 of her free throw attempts in the two games and shot nearly 50% from the field (17-36).
Upper Iowa couldn't regain the magic from Friday's comeback in Duluth on Saturday. The Peacocks turned the ball over 12 times in the first half and dug themselves too big a hole to overcome in their season finale against the Bulldogs. On Friday, a late run was not enough for Upper Iowa to overcome a 13-point halftime deficit, but the team did make it interesting. The Beavers led by 18, 64-46, before the visitors began to crawl back into the game. With the help of an 18-2 run, Upper Iowa cut the host's lead to just two points, 66-64. The run was fueled by 10 of Kieffer's game-high 31 points including two three-point plays. During the run, Kieffer also recorded four of her eight rebounds as well as two blocked shots. UIU was never able to take the lead, however, as BSU held on for a 77-72 victory. #Jeri Jacobson# closed out her Peacock career avaraging 10 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists over the weekend.
